Interior
I decided to pull out the interior and see what was underneath the carpet and padding. The carpet was faded and the padding was shot. I was suprised to find only slight surface rust in two or three places. I sanded the rust off and primed the areas. The stuff in the top of the second photo is the insulation from the kickboard that stuck to the car.

I put down new insulation padding from under the dash to the top of the rear seat back. The insulation has a foil backing on the under side. I used a spray adhesive to hold the padding in place and foil tape in the seams. It sure makes the car quieter on the inside.

Next came the new carpet. It was custom made for the 2 door Torino notchback but the sides had to be trimmed to fit. Wasn't difficult, just tedious.

Finally, I bought black vinyl seat covers in the original design and the emblems to go on them. A friend here in town does seat covers on the side and installed them for me. One thing Ford did that GM didn't generally do was paint the seat springs. Most of the older GM seats I have seen have rusted springs. The ones in this car were still holding their black paint and looked new.

Quite a contrast. I kept the original covers on the headrests. They were in great shape. They are also larger than ones I have seen in other 69's.
